Welcome to Highway 50. A band that brings together a PhD in Biochemistry, an IT specialist and a government Senior Officer. 20 years ago we got together to play cover tunes at Mike's parents' house. Eventually life and school got in the way of music (and his parents threw us out) until we discovered the power of digital recording. Finally we could sound good! 20 years later we got back together making our own music as a Studio group. The band is essentially made up of 3 members: Luc , Dan and Mike. Since none of us can read or write music , we don't consider ourselves musicians really but just guys that play music.

Our influences range from Pop music to Heavy Metal via Classic Rock, Pink Floyd, Supertramp and many others. We like to think that we write lyrics about social problems or episodes of our lives in fairly subtle ways. Why "Highway 50"? We're still not sure. As kids, two of us used to hang out in a beautiful wooded area by a small creek that got wiped after the building of Highway 50 in our home town, Gatineau, Quebec. Then I learned that it was also the "loneliest highway in the states". It just has the right "feel".

Enjoy the music, send us a line and keep checking the New Demos section as we will upload clips of songs in progress.

The Band

I (Luc) was born in good old Pointe-Gatineau in the '60s and I've been playing guitar since the age of about 10. Born and raised in a family of singers and muscicians, I was constatntly surrounded by music. There was never a dull party at our house! Initially influenced by real rock 'n' roll (Elvis, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, etc.), I moved on to harder stuff (Deep Purple, Sabbath, Jethro Tull, etc.). But I have to say that all types of music have had an influence on what I compose today. Including the stuff that my mom listened to while cleaning the house (Adamo, Joe Dassin and of course Elvis)!

With amazing progress in technologies I realized that we could do great sounding stuff without the 1 million dollar sound console. So I got on the phone and reunited the guys.

I (Dan) was born in Pointe-Gatineau, raised by a family of musicians.Always wanted to play rock music with my brother Luc…So he showed me how to play guitar since I was always using his to try and play. Then he needed a bass player for his band so him and my dad bought me my first bass guitar when I was 13.I’ve always been playing rock music with him since then. Either on rhythm guitar or on bass.

My influences range from April Wine, Stevie Ray Vaughn to Black Sabbath, Dio, Ozzy but most of all Metallica.

Thanks Bro for teaching me how to play and have fun with music!

I (Michel) was born in Hull and as early as 3 years old, I learned to play drums as my parents managed a marching band (Soubirous de Hull) and my father wanted me to join the parades. A year later, my grandfather bought me a real mini drum set so I could play along with my guitar-playing father. As a teenager, I played drums with the school band and was a member of various garage bands.

At the end of the 80s and beginning of the 90s, I played in a band with Luc and Daniel. After a long 20 year break, dedicated to my career and family, I got a call from my old friends to create Highway 50.
